Crime Prevention Program

122

The Elwood Police Department Crime Prevention Program is designed to decrease the likelihood of criminal activity while empowering members of the Community through education and awareness. Incorporating principals of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design, also known as CPTED, this program includes an on-site visit and survey conducted by one of the Department’s specially trained crime prevention officers.

While conducting a walk-through of the property to pinpoint specific target areas to address, time will be spent discussing personal safety practices and security devices appropriate for both inside and outside the property. Before leaving, the customer will be provided with a list of written recommendations for improving the security of their property.

A home security assessment is one tool used to achieve our goal of protecting the community. Elwood Police Officers Randy Lightfoot and Jennifer Kickert have received specialized training designed to enhance our department’s ability to provide important crime prevention information. Officer Lightfoot and Kickert serve as our departments Crime Prevention Officers  and are available to conduct a security assessment for both business and residential properties.

Law enforcement must remain the facilitator to engage and inform citizens on how to better protect their homes and property. As a result we can build a vibrant safe community and remain vigilant, not fearful. Please call the Elwood Police Department at (815) 424-1090 and schedule an appointment for a home security survey and information on how you can better protect your home against crime
