Live scan is an inkless electronic system designed to capture an individual’s fingerprint images and demographic data (name, sex, race, date of birth, etc.) in a digitized format that can be transmitted to the Illinois State Police (ISP) for processing. Once received at the ISP, Bureau of Identification (BOI) for processing, the inquiry can then be forwarded to the FBI electronically for processing. All of this occurs within minutes and results in a biometric identification of an individual with little to no human intervention. Live scan can be used for criminal justice as well as non-criminal justice use.
Fingerprinting
We are available to fingerprint citizens for employment, adoption, licensing, or background investigations Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Fingerprinting is done on a walk-in basis, however, we are only able to provide the service if our booking room is unoccupied at the time. Therefore, appointments cannot be made, due to the unpredictability of our arrest status. If you are a resident of the Village of Elwood or if the fingerprinting is being requested from a business or school in the Village of Elwood, there is no charge for the service. For citizens who reside outside of the Village of Elwood, there is a $20 fee for fingerprinting services.
